About our cause
The Stanton Guildhouse Workshop Renovation Project
Who we are and what we do:
The Stanton Guildhouse Trust is a charitable organisation, and we aim to enhance community life through celebrating the arts and crafts. The Guildhouse is located in the Gloucestershire region, and serves Cheltenham and its surroundings, both the house and workshops attract users from a cross-section of the local population. We run a wide range of community events and bespoke courses on specialist subjects such as woodworking, painting and pottery etc, we are a unique resource in the area and as a result we attract many students and guests from Cheltenham. Stanton Guildhouse offers opportunities to Cheltenham and Gloucestershire residents and artists that would not otherwise be available to them, and we serve as a central meeting point for our community. The workshops that sit alongside our Grade II listed Guildhouse, teach practical and creative classes such as pottery, woodwork, stained glass and kiln-fired glass, drawing and painting, with specialist equipment including a kiln, pottery wheels and wood lathes. Our Guildhouse hosts community events such as book clubs, quiet days, comedy shows and musical performances, some with national well know figures like the musician and comedian Alastair McGowan and the violinist Michael Bachman.
Why we need your help:
We are raising funds for the renovation of Guildhouse workshops, which critical for re-opening the workshops in autumn, without the funding our workshops will be forced to shut down. Due to COVID-19, we urgently require capital funds for the renovation in order to make our workshops safe, and once again open our doors to our wonderful community. Therefore, we are hope you consider supporting us by joining the lottery today!
About our Workshop Renovation Project:
The workshop renovation aims to improve the experience of those attending classes, better serve our community and artists, meet current health and safety regulations and be fit for purpose for a post COVID-19 world. The renovation includes redecoration of the buildings and classrooms, installing new electrical systems and ventilation, a new toilet and washing facility, and new equipment for the woodwork and pottery classes. It is urgent we make our workshops comply with COVID-19 guidelines and to meet current health and safety regulations. We are a unique and meaningful community resource, and we are passionate about enhancing community life, improving social inclusion and celebrating the arts. Therefore, we are excited to once again reopen our workshops following the renovation project, and continue to serve our loved community.
Project outcomes and who will benefit:
The renovation of the workshops will enable us to better serve our community and artists through our Support Artists and Igniting Creativity programmes and continue to address disadvantages within our rural area. Our programmes will address the lack of opportunities for local people, and encourage people to discover and refine their creative skills through our workshops. Elderly residents are our key demographic, and our rural location leads to their disadvantage through social isolation, loneliness and poor physical and mental wellbeing. The workshops offer a creative outlet, teach new skills, improve social life and therefore address issues of loneliness, whilst supporting wellbeing. We are eager to reopen the Guildhouse, as following this difficult period of isolation, our role in supporting our residents is needed now more than ever. The workshop renovation project will enable us to reopen, so we can continue to reduce social isolation, provide a creative outlet, offer new opportunities and help restore and enhance community life.
To support us, we kindly ask you to join the lottery today, and we wish you the best of luck!
We greatly appreciate all the support to reach our funding goal, thank you!
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Julia Stanbridge
